AI Startup Buildcheck Raises $5.9M Seed Funding to Further Develop Its Automated Plan-Checking Platform

Buildcheck AI has closed a $5.9 million seed funding round. The round was led by Uncork Capital, with participation from Peterson Ventures and Xfund, as well as strategic business angels—including founders and executives from companies such as OpenAI, Opendoor, CBRE, and Zillow.

Buildcheck Team

Buildcheck’s AI platform analyzes plans across all major disciplines—including architecture, structural engineering, electrical, HVAC/plumbing (MEP), and civil works—and runs hundreds of checks to identify errors, omissions, and coordination issues. This allows the software to detect clashes and conflicts that designers might overlook. According to the company, the solution delivers a 10x to 35x return on investment by preventing issues before construction even begins (okay, we’d love to see a more detailed breakdown of that 😉).

Buildcheck’s CEO and co-founder, Alexander Michalatos, is not a “techie” by profession or primary training. He studied at the University of British Columbia and earned a Bachelor of Engineering. His first roles were at Honeywell and EllisDon—a strong practical background that will definitely help.

Buildcheck’s goal is to close the persistent gap between design and actual construction execution. With this new funding, the company plans to accelerate growth and further advance AI-driven quality assurance in the construction industry.

From our perspective, this is an interesting approach that addresses a real problem. Congratulations on the funding—and wishing the team continued success!
