Autodesk Presents the Next Step of Its AECO Strategy at Autodesk University

At Autodesk University (September 16–18, 2025, Nashville), Autodesk unveiled the next phase of its AECO strategy.

According to Autodesk’s vision, Autodesk Forma is evolving into the first end-to-end, AI-native cloud that brings together planning, construction, and operations within a single environment. At its core is the integration of the Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) into Forma (and vice versa). In addition, Autodesk introduced “Autodesk Estimate,” a new cloud-based solution for quantity takeoff and cost estimation.

Newly announced within this ecosystem is “Forma Building Design” (launching as a beta in the coming months). The solution targets design development and execution planning, offering automated, AI-driven workflows and integrated analyses (including façade design, interior layouts, daylight analysis, and CO₂ metrics).

To further bridge desktop and cloud workflows, Autodesk introduced the label “Forma Connected Clients.” Revit is the first to be integrated: users can access Forma data, environmental analyses, and collaboration features directly from the desktop environment—without the friction of export/import workflows. In addition, Autodesk Docs will become the central data hub and will be renamed “Forma Data Management.”

From a technical perspective, Autodesk is building on the open Model Context Protocol (MCP) and context-aware AI assistance. The goal is standardized data contexts, transparent automation, and seamless collaboration across all phases, disciplines, and tools.

A Brief Look Back

Forma is built on Spacemaker, the cloud-based AI tool for early-stage urban design that Autodesk acquired in 2020 for USD 240 million. It seems that investment is gradually paying off 😉. Since 2023, the integration has become clearly visible to users, with Spacemaker now operating under the name Autodesk Forma.

By unifying early-stage design (site design), detailed building design, construction processes (ACC), and centralized data management, Autodesk is driving the shift away from file-based silos toward granular, shared project information—laying the foundation for AI-supported decision-making across the entire building lifecycle.

And since all these innovations are becoming quite extensive, we’re working closely with GRAITEC Deutschland, a strong Autodesk partner who can provide expert guidance. Daniel even brought the latest updates straight from Nashville—and shows which ones truly make a difference in day-to-day practice.
