Instead of manufacturing foundations and cable trenches traditionally on the construction site, the startup founded in 2020 by Fernando De los Rios, Ashish Mohite, and Henry Unterreiner shifts production to robot-controlled microfactories set up directly next to the respective projects. The centerpiece is the internally developed software platform Forge, which bundles design, structural engineering, regulatory compliance, and robotics into a single system. According to the company, this reduces costs by up to 50 percent, CO2 emissions by up to 70 percent, and material consumption by up to 75 percent compared to traditional construction methods.
Customers such as National Grid, Costain, Mott MacDonald Bentley, Anglian Water, and United Utilities are already utilizing the solution. With the fresh capital, Forge I, Hyperion’s first microfactory in the United Kingdom, is now launching. It is being built in Flixborough near Scunthorpe in partnership with LKAB and is designed to deliver infrastructure components for energy, utilities, water management, data centers, and carbon capture.
According to CEO Fernando De los Rios, the “shift” to a different approach is obvious. Europe faces a growing need to renew its infrastructure, while labor, budgets, and time are becoming increasingly scarce. This is exactly where factory-based manufacturing is intended to step in and deliver at scale in the future, right next to the projects it supplies.
