Swiss AI Start-up Scalera Secures $6.5 Million to Expand Its AI-Based Tendering Assistant Across the DACH Region 🇩🇪 🇨🇭 🇦🇹

Swiss start-up Scalera, a spin-off of ETH Zurich, aims to revolutionize the construction industry with Artificial Intelligence. With fresh funding of $6.5 million—including investments from PlanRadar founders Sander van de Rijdt and Ibrahim Imam, as well as venture capital firm Speedinvest—the company plans to overcome outdated processes in the construction sector.

Founded by Leonard Reinhard (CEO), Sven Affeltranger (CCO), and Federico Gossi (CTO), Scalera addresses one of the most inefficient areas in construction: tendering. Despite the central importance of the tendering process, it is still often handled through PDFs, Excel spreadsheets, and manual email communication—a time-consuming and error-prone approach. Scalera aims to change this by making projects faster, more cost-effective, and more transparent.

How Scalera Is Digitizing the Construction Industry

Scalera’s AI-powered platform automates the most labor-intensive steps in the tendering process:

  • It extracts and structures data from submitted documents.
  • It automatically assigns line items to common standard catalogs such as NPK, BKP, VOB, or ÖNorm.
  • Suppliers can upload their product catalogs, and Scalera matches them in real time with relevant tenders.

According to Scalera, this reduces processing time from three days to just half a day—while decreasing errors and improving collaboration between clients and suppliers.

Expansion Across the DACH Region with Strong Growth

Scalera has already processed tenders worth more than CHF 2 billion and covers between 65% and 75% of construction companies in Switzerland. The start-up is now expanding into Germany and Austria, aiming to maintain its strong growth trajectory.

Investors Convinced by Scalera’s Potential

The $6.5 million seed round was led by firstminute capital, Speedinvest, and a group of strategic business angels—including van de Rijdt and Imam. The company’s growth metrics were particularly compelling for investors.

We’ll keep an eye on Scalera, wish them the best of luck, and see whether they can replicate their Swiss success story in Germany and Austria.
