Scan2BIM – or how to digitize large-scale projects!

In the past, the as-built documentation of complex and large sites such as the historic Tempelhof Airport was one of the more demanding tasks and required significant time and resources.

In this webinar, Thomas demonstrates how the use of the latest technologies now makes it possible to capture buildings with floor areas of more than 300,000 m² and prepare them for redesign and conversion projects.

In particular, the use of mobile mapping systems has led to a significant increase in efficiency. In combination with cloud storage systems and browser-based viewers, information exchange with project participants can be managed quickly and easily. This enables the sharing of as-built scans with project partners—such as those responsible for 3D modeling or planning—immediately after capture. Project timelines are shortened, and the building becomes available as a digital twin within a very short time.

Beyond traditional as-built documentation, mobile mapping and conventional scanning are increasingly used in many construction-related project phases. For example, scanning serves as the basis for digital opening verification (see also the webinar “Intelligent Construction Monitoring: Reducing Costs with Automated Construction vs. BIM Comparison,” February 23, 2023), AI-supported damage mapping in concrete refurbishment, or support for facility management after commissioning. The range of applications continues to grow, and acceptance of these solutions is steadily increasing.
